Touching on Traditions Exhibition
12 pm - 4 pm; $2/adult, $1/child, Members free

People from around the world have made their homes in Elgin. They brought with them beliefs and traditions from their countries of origin giving the Elgin community a rich diversity, which is now a part of our cultural heritage. Visit the Museum’s winter holiday exhibition, featuring displays and objects of traditional holiday significance.

Friday, December 6

Touching on Traditions Opening Night Celebration
7 pm - 9 pm; $10/adult, $2 children 3 - 12, Free children under 3, $5/Members

The Touching on Traditions exhibit at the Elgin Public Museum has been a long-standing tradition for many years. This year we want to start a new tradition with you, a special Touching on Traditions Opening Night Celebration. Be the first to see our Touching on Traditions exhibit before it officially opens on Saturday, December 7. We will have a silent auction, a raffle, refreshments, a special story time with Mrs. Claus for the kids, and music. If you become a member you get even earlier access than 7 pm. Story Hour: Traditions
11 am - 12 pm; Free!

Children explore the natural world through stories and exhibits at the Elgin Public Museum. December’s Traditions Story Hour dovetails with our annual Touching on Traditions holiday season exhibits. Donations welcome. No registration required.

Friday, December 13

Around the World in One Night
6 pm - 8 pm, $2/person, Members free

In place of Science Night, come out for an evening of cultural traditions. Kids and adults alike can enjoy the stories, crafts and food of different winter holidays. This is a drop-in program; no registration required.

Saturday, December 21

Ancient Cultural Traditions and the Solstice
6 pm – 8 pm; $6/person, $4/Members

Celebrate the Solstice with treats and ancient stories of this darkest time of the year all around a roaring fire! Doors open early so you can enjoy the Touching on Traditions exhibition before the event. This is a drop-in program - no registration required.

Saturday, December 28

Bison Feeding in Lords Park
7 am - 8:30 am; $2/adult, $1/child, Members free

Join us for an up close and personal look at the bison, deer and elk at the Lords Park Zoo. Meet at the Museum for a short introduction after which we head for the zoo to assist the zookeeper in feeding these magnificent creatures. Registration is required and space is limited to 12 people so please register early!
